David Stern could not put this rule in place by himself. He is being touted as a hero after last Sunday's game. But if Dre Bly catches the god awful pass that Favre threw on the drive before the game winning drive, then everyone would be saying "same ole Favre, making stupid plays that cost his team the game". But instead, somehow he is a hero now. Makes me ill.
As far as your point about Twins. You are dead wrong. The Twins have all the momentum right now. They don't want a day off. I know you love your baseball and that it is the end of the world because tonight the NFL is being showcased! BUT, San Fran is out and now you can focus on your 3-1 49ers who might just give you that playoff run you were lookin for in September. Who cares who wins the game Tuesday because we BOTH know that either team will lose to the Yankees. Also, does anyone even care about this 1 game playoff? Not me! Not REAL football fans! and most definately not the thousands of Twins fans who now dont have to make the decession on who to watch tonight.Plus I'm sure the Twins love having today off and resting their team for the biggest game of the year tomorrow. Now, I usually back you on your far fetched outlook on sports but here I know your just being a Favre hater. So go to the kitchen grab a large glass of the HATERADE and watch this great game on tonight. GO METS !!!! You ...It's one thing to be a fan of a bad team. You expect awfulness, but every once in awhile they have a great season and even if they just make the playoffs, you're happy. Think Marlins fans or Panthers fans in Florida. Most of the time those two teams are bad, but every once in awhile they have a run(and the Marlins have delivered us two championships among all that cruddiness).

But I also know how David feels. I'm a Dolphins fan. There's nothing worse than starting out most years knowing your team has a shot. During the Marino era, I knew every year that the Dolphins could win a championship. And every year they broke my heart. Then came Ricky Williams and they had a couple more good years. And fell short. Then there was the promise of last year, and now they are 0-3. I said the Lions would end their 19-game losing streak. Right again. I said Miami would go to 0-3. Hmmm, right again. I don't know much about Jerry Jones but I am certainly glad George Steinbrenner has always made my Yankees winning a priority (I am a Bx boy since 1949 where I grew up virtually in the big ball orchard's shadow on on 163st) Night games lit the top 3 floors of my building.

However, the trade off for a beautiful new stadium like the magnificent new Yankee Stadium is that the average fan has been priced out. When we lived in NY we had wonderful season tickets in the loge directly above the Yankees dugout. When we moved to Florida other friends in out consortium took over the seats. This past season, after decades of loyal fandom they had to pass. The seat prices went up over 200%.

If the best seats in the stadium run 1500$ for a regular season game, I wonder what bank you would need to rob to afford the post season?

Not exactly fan friendly unless the fan is corporation.

Let's not wax nostalgic for the "generous owners" The billions they invest in the new venues will come back a hundred fold. Let's sign them up for the Nobel Peace Prize just yet. It is what it is...A buisiness decision by a corporate entity. Once they sign a contract with a team, they are property of that team and they give up everything for a little extra money. Sorry, but I have a major problem with that. Money does not make everything better. If money made everything better, then rich people would not have any problems. Sometimes fans become jealous that athletes make a lot of money and that jealousy breeds contempt and a lack of sympathy for them. That's truly sad.krak1220https://www.blogger.com/profile/17680898395944696208noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7351799533521853514.post-2807558469694818892009-09-11T22:51:07.991-04:002009-09-11T22:51:07.991-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.krak1220https://www.blogger.com/profile/17680898395944696208noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7351799533521853514.post-26981312561440447242009-09-11T22:36:55.257-04:002009-09-11T22:36:55.257-04:00I have a difficult time feeling for athletes who e...I have a difficult time feeling for athletes who earn millions of dollars when they are traded to a city hundreds or thousands of miles away. They know going in that moving is a part of their professions. Unlike the "civilian" who is transferred these men can fly their families in for long weekend (and in first class) as often as they wish.
There was a time that an athlete could reasonably expect to stay with a team for most of his career. The TV special "When It Was A Game" clearly showed that it is no longer a game, it is a business and the players are not merely players thay are corporations.
Howard G.Howard Gleichenhaushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13861851687698760757noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7351799533521853514.post-74507404264811749162009-09-11T14:37:50.218-04:002009-09-11T14:37:50.218-04:00The sensitive side of Krak! I feel for Seymour.......The sensitive side of Krak! I feel for Seymour....as much as I can feel for a Pat. But, there is something youare overlooking. We (the "Fan'). Have been somewhat conditioned by player behavior to have no tolerance for their daily life struggles. For as many players are loyal and stick with a team there are equally those who hop from team to team, city to city in pursuit of a higher salary. That type of behavior forces us to see that the almighty dollar really does rule their world. Just a slightly different angle. My favorite example of this was back in the Cowboys hayday of the 90s with Troy, Emmitt, Irving and HARPER....Harper - a SOLID 2nd to Irving thought he could be the man and sold out to Tampa for a few hundred thousand dollars more (dont research that amount...I am still a chick with no propensity for those type of details), well, he could never be "The MAN" and within short order his career tanked. But, when he made this choice...he broke some Cowboy hearts.
